On Friday, 8th November 2019 all the devout Woodlanders swarmed to celebrate one of the most revered day to glorify the tenets of Sikhism i.e. Guru Nanak Dev Jyanti which commemorates the birth of first guru of Sikh, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The jubilation was graced with the benign presence of gregarious Chairperson Mrs. Tarlochan Kaur,adroit Managing Trustee Mr. Mandeep Singh, vivacious Dean Dr. Simerjeet Kaur, amiable Principal Ms. Puja Dhiman and the entire staff members and students.
The Jubilation began with a series of ceremonial rituals i.e. Prabhat Pheri with five armed guards called Panj Pyaras fronting it. Devotee’s chanted hyms holding Sikh Flag called “Nishan Sahib” which filled the air amidst the resounding drumbeats. A team of students attired in traditional clothes, brandishing traditional weapons played Gatka as they displayed skill in fighting martial arts. Poem, hymns and quotes were read out in form of “Shabad and Anand Sahib” that upholds Guru Nanak’s exemplary life. Turban Tying and Shabad Gayan competition was also held in which all participants participated enthusiastically.
In her message, Dean Dr. Simerjeet Kaur emphasized that in today’s scenario it’s imperative to inculcate virtues like harmony equality and follow the preaching’s of Guru Nanak Dev Ji whole heartedly for rewarding and fruitful life. At the end, holy parshad was distributed to the entire Woodland family.
